'Feline Frisky' Animation

This was a fun personal project I created for the E4 'Estings' competition entry in 2015. At the time, I wanted to challenge myself to storyboard, illustrate, animate, and edit together a character sequence using Adobe After Effects.

I started with a big, blank piece of paper and began defining how E4's channel content connected with its viewing audience, of which I was one myself. The channel's content was primarily focused on younger audience members, catering towards millennials with shows such as The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Scrubs and reality TV shows. This group were more often than not engaged with online dating, sharing memes, watching shows like Made In Chelsea and typically had an 'always on' mindset glued to their phone screens at all times.
This formed the inspirational content for the narrative.

Choosing a style
Visual inspiration
Once I had created a narrative and rough storyboard sequence to map out the animation's timings and key visuals, I selected a visual style for the look & feel of the sequence. I liked the polygon illustration style, as well as the idea of the main character being in a normal type setting such as a cafe drinking a coffee.

Sketching, scanning and Adobe Illustrator
Once I had sketched out each scene and the different elements I wanted to include, I converted the drawings into vector artwork using Adobe Illustrator, producing layered files for After Effects.

The final animation was created using Adobe After Effects with expressions, 3D camera and various filters to create the final style and depth.
